SPOT Gen3 Device

The Perskindol Swiss Epic, taking place from 11-15 September 2018, is a five-day, challenging yet rewarding mountain bike stage race held in Switzerland’s beautiful Valais region. The event covers 322km with 12,300m of accumulated climbing and riders must complete the race in two-person teams. The route changes every year, passing through remote Alpine countryside and attracting aspiring amateur and professional mountain bikers from around the world.

Following the success at the 2018 Absa Cape Epic, in which SPOT was used to track all 670 teams, the Perskindol Swiss Epic will also switch from GSM based tracking to SPOT satellite tracking solutions. SPOTGen3 devices provide a tracking and S.O.S. function that allows race organisers to know where all their riders are on the route at all times and dispatch help should an emergency occur.

“Rider safety is of paramount importance to the event and by having a satellite solution we are substantially improving our ability to track teams and react to emergencies out on each stage. In addition to this, the SPOT solution allows us to effectively track and move event assets during the course of each stage including vehicles, personnel and medical support. Together with SPOT we developed a special event platform for the Absa Cape Epic, and we’re excited to roll this out to other Epic Series events – starting with the Perskindol Swiss Epic.".

“We are very proud to be providing a trusted and effective tracking solution to the Perskindol Swiss Epic. The rugged nature of this race as well as the lack of GSM connectivity demands a device like SPOT. Our satellite tracking will increase rider safety, increase the viewing experience for those at home as well as increase the efficiency of the race organiser’s systems”.
