Covington, LA – Globalstar, now completing the launch of the world’s first second-generation low earth orbit ( LEO) satellite network, will showcase its SPOT personal GPS devices and the Company’s Satellite Phones in booth 39191 at Outdoor Retailer, August 2-6, 2012. Globalstar’s satellite network is the power behind both SPOT devices and Globalstar’s Satellite Phones, delivering the industry’s clearest voice quality and data speeds up to three to four times faster than other satellite handset providers.

SPOT devices are rugged, pocket-sized communication devices that work where cell phones and two-way radios fail, allowing outdoor adventurers to maintain communication or send for help in emergency situations. As crucial as a water bottle and less expensive than a sturdy backpack, SPOT assists outdoor enthusiasts in the following situations:

  • SPOT Checks In by letting others know you are OK and have arrived safely.
  • SPOT Tracks by sharing your location in real time via Google Maps™.
  • SPOT Communicates by allowing you to send custom messages to family and friends.
  • SPOT Rescuesby transmitting your location in an emergency situation to an international rescue coordination center that initiates local first responders.

SPOT has initiated more than 1,900 rescues worldwide since Globalstar introduced the product in 2007. Just this summer, the U.S. Forest Service announced that it will purchase 6,000 SPOT devices for the purpose of employee safety.

The SPOT family of products includes the SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger™ and SPOT Connect ™. In addition to the above features, SPOT Messenger allows adventurers to send standard check in ok messages to pre-programmed contacts. SPOT Connect pairs with your smartphone, providing the user with the ability to send real-time, on-the-fly messages to pre-set contacts. SPOT Messenger retails for $99.99, plus service plan. SPOT Connect retails for $149.00, plus service plan. Both are available at Cabela’s, REI, Bass Pro Shops, West Marine, Best Buy, Dick’s Sporting Goods and other leading outdoor retailers.
