SPOT Value Added Reseller, Mapyx, is the Official GIS & Digital Mapping Partner of Mountain England & Wales and Lowland Rescue. Mapyx solutions are in use by Search & Rescue Professionals, the Police, the Ministry of Defence, Fire Services and hundreds of educational organisations both in the UK and abroad.

For the last 7 years, the Mapyx Tracking Solution is the sole system recommended by the Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE). Mapyx was selected after assessment of available systems and surveys of DofE groups using the Mapyx tracking system. The solution, when combined with the SPOT Trackers was elevated above all competition. It is available on PC, Mobile, Web Portal and SMS.
Key benefits of the Mapyx Tracking Solution for the DofE:

  • Savings on fuel due to a known location
  • Remote supervision, without taking away the need for Leaders/Assessors to retain total responsibility
  • Cost effective technological solutions to aid effective management
  • Already in use by existing DofE groups
  • Tracking of multiple groups
  • Compatible with the DofE Mapping system to permit the transfer of data

How can I use SPOT with my group?
  • SPOT is placed on a participant’s rucksack, this transmits the GPS position in real time which is then sent via satellite to a secure server.
  • This data can be viewed securely on a computer online or via a hand-held device using the SPOT app.
  • Supervisors, Assessors, Leaders, Licensed Organizations and emergency contacts can then monitor the team’s location and progress.
  • Using the tracking functionality of SPOT is an effective way of supporting team safety.
  • The inclusion of two way communication with SPOT X enhances safety even further enabling direct two way communication with the rescue authorities when required.
