Company to present: SPOT GEN3®, SPOT Trace® and SPOT Global Phone and have customers on hand to share their stories on why they depend on SPOT

July 16, 2015 –– SPOT LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Globalstar Inc. and leader in satellite messaging and emergency notification technologies, will showcase its affordable line of products at the 2015 Outdoor Retailer Summer Show in Salt Lake City, August 5 – August 8. SPOT is designed to provide peace of mind, tracking capabilities, and connectivity in areas beyond the boundaries of cellular. With approximately 250,000 SPOT units in service, SPOT now averages a rescue a day.

Recently on June 18, Stan Reese, an experienced hiker, set foot on a four-day solo adventure in San Bernardino, California. On day three, he saw smoke and immediately knew he was in trouble. The fire blocked his only way out by foot so he activated the SOS feature on his SPOT device. Within two hours of alerting the GEOS International Emergency Rescue Coordination Center, a San Bernardino Sheriff’s helicopter arrived shortly on the scene. Reese stated, “I remember the sheriff communicating to me through the loud speaker to gather my stuff.” Due to erratic winds, the helicopter had to burn fuel to reduce the weight for safety. Stan was instructed to abandon his belongings as he boarded and they were forced to travel through the ravine of the fire. Reese became relieved when they made it out safely and now encourages other fellow hikers to make sure they have SPOT on them at all times.

Additionally, Trevor Thomas explains, "As a professional, blind long distance hiker, safety for myself and my guide dog is my priority when in the back country. No matter who you are, things can go wrong and my SPOT Gen3 is the most important piece of gear that I have."

Brock Butterfield, an experienced outdoorsman and snowboarder, doesn’t venture out without his SPOT devices. "Crossing glaciers and avoiding crevasses in Alaska was the hardest part in getting to our zones for snowboarding. We relied heavily on our Gen3 both for reviewing our route later that night and in the event something went terribly wrong." He continued, "We were thirteen miles deep in the Wyoming back country when our cinematographers’ snowmobile blew a piston. If it wasn't for our SPOT Global Phone, we would have had a very long and cold night."

SPOT Trace, the newest addition to the SPOT family, is already helping approximately 20,000 customers keep tabs on their high-value assets like boats, ATV’s, off-road bikes and RV’s. Here’s what a few customers had to say:

  • "SPOT Trace is the most user friendly tracking device with the best battery life hands down."– AC
  • "I enjoy the fact that when my RV moves, I know about it in 3-5 minutes." – Barry Perkins
  • "Trace is the perfect way to track any movements of my boat while I'm away." – Dan Lawler
  • "If someone or something messes with our four wheeler up at the cabin, we know within minutes of activity. It provides a real peace of mind in leaving an expensive moto unattended in deep Appalachia." – Katie Rehkop
